Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Print media, comprising newspapers, magazines, and journals, plays a critical role in supporting the growth and development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). In Gombe Local Government, Gombe State, print media serves as a platform for SMEs to advertise their products and services, disseminate market information, and build brand visibility (Abdullahi & Musa, 2024). Through targeted content, print media fosters entrepreneurial awareness, provides market insights, and educates SME owners about government policies, funding opportunities, and best practices. Studies indicate that consistent media exposure significantly enhances the competitiveness and sustainability of SMEs by connecting them with their target audience and stakeholders (Garba & Ahmed, 2023). However, issues such as affordability, accessibility, and the shift to digital platforms challenge the effectiveness of print media in this sector.
